White Privilege

Its beauty does not surpass the ugliness,

when a man says to another this is mine

without ever recognizing effort is progress

rather instead he’d choose to undermine.

I do walk outside my door everyday free

in my country, in my state of mind, in my

ability to recognize this is all about me.

I haven’t any need to ever really ask why.

Oh I do read about you in the news everyday

and I care a lot, listen to those around me

when in the midst of tangible reason I can say

there ought to be change, we all need to be free.

Yet at the end of the day, when everyone is resting

My world is certain, less caught up in the arresting.
