We do not wish for tragedy
Cry for the little souls
Their choices are many
Rife with loving roles
~
To protect them
To nurture soft giggles
To allow beauty to be young
To preserve innocent lives
~
We step up for children
A shield against dark hours
Protect their lives only then
Hold them and comfort as ours
~
A child is vulnerable
A child brings passion
A child speaks volumes
A child deserves love
~
We design a cruel world
Around our children today
When fears abound, twirled
Serpents tripping life away
~
A memory of an infant
A memory of quiet sighs
A memory of sweet smiles
A memory of God’s beauty
~
We will lose another child
A beating, a slap, a neglect
Our human frailty is wild
Abandoning all true respect
~
While I cry myself to sleep at nigh
Know now my tears wonder why
