On White Privilege

I was pissed today,

they didn’t get it,

instead, they threw it away,

opportunity,

look around the room,

everyone has a set of eyes,

focus on the corneas, nothing else,

notice the tear ducts,

they exist,

Everything else is added baggage,

meant to confuse and display,

every wonder why?

The eyes?

I stood outside in the rain,

a natural cleanse,

when I opened my windows later in the day,

I could see clearly again, another setting sun.

Whose Fight Is This?

When did the word respect become

a distant memory.

Whenever the wind blows a certain way,

do we have to only comply.

While a thought crosses the mind of a quiet soul,

we might think of another’s low.

~

The other afternoon,

I noticed them gathered together,

realized their fortune to be each other

only for that moment,

nothing more,

once the time passed, their world

belonged to whomever decided to accept

or perhaps continue to circumvent.

~

Do we know each other,

do you understand my peril,

have you any idea what we feel,

on any given day, even Saturday.

For how long will you wreak

havoc upon your state of mind.

When might the time arrive,

when suddenly you compromise,

how might a heartache benefit

from a moment of compassion,

nothing agenda driven of course,

yet only certainly an element of love.

~

I would give you my world if only

your smile would be real

if only,

if when you realize there is beauty

in understanding pure humility.

I do get it though, ‘check your ego at the door’

is such an exhausting reality to live by.

Much adventure ahead while you release

your venom within a community of peace!

When People Do Depart

Years ago,

with a stamp and a leap of faith,

I would begin my wait,

until one sunny afternoon, I would see the delivery,

always hoping you might be there,

to say hello,

~

So often as the gravel chimed my feet,

I would hear your voice again,

through the words on paper,

a parchment even in your selection

would offer solace,

in knowing there was a care,

for every aspect of your return.

~

i would then smile,

imagine the next round, our continued love affair,

miles away, yet immediately bound,

by the words we awaited, we lived for, we delighted

in realizing when they returned our thoughts,

the imagery in our mind,

remained strong, and evident, and real,

again.

~

Today, is it too easy to be swooned,

by the romantic nature of our words,

by our ability to recognize truth,

by our willingness to be vulnerable,

by the sheer virtue that sometimes our words …

are all we are,

remaining,

left behind,

in the immediacy.

Immediacy and Now

time

***

When I was a kid,

immediacy meant maybe,

I could hope and pray,

yet, always there was that

quiet confusion,

not knowing, well, certainly, not expecting.

Unless, I was given motive,

back then,

if the carrot were dangled I would,

indeed, with the fervor of

ambitious childhood,

be pursuant and indeed,

adamant,

that chance might merit my desire.

~

Passion today,

is measured in moments,

nearly seconds of time,

can pass within a notion,

with response, a party of knowledge,

might suggest we all want what we have,

now, immediately, today without wait,

because,

we all know what the waiting can do,

can do,

can do to our fleeting,

expectations.

We do want and we generally get

want now.

~

Find the common ground,

that shelter of patience,

that piece of serenity,

suggests,

just maybe, perhaps, another moment,

of time,

might allow a bit of solace,

beyond the constant need,

to validate our ownership

of, to understand our need to maintain,

the, to recognize a new respect for,

yours, my, yours, theirs, everyone, needs,

time!

On Sheltered Words

pain

If when I choose to lay my soul

I’m careful to always remain whole

then will the clouds ahead remain

waiting with a vengeance innane

~

while waking again with a certain fear

I lay in my space afraid of what is near

I want only to be happy without sad

reminders that eventually turn me mad

~

when left inside this hollow grave

of hidden passions and love so knave

one cannot help to feel a bit absurd

to know that now when is this, word.

~

If ever I might step inside my mind

a new foray without my constant remind

of terror in dreams, of haunting desire

then maybe I might then now inspire

~

A child walked past my window today

he was living out loud the rites of May

I watched his little body traverse the soil

curious when would then he meet his foil

~

I am an adult today by world standard

I live and breathe as love that mattered

exists in a dependent cycle of freedoms

without matter of the girth of kingdoms.

~

I am a quiet soul inside my sheltered peace

the storm of agony always wills release.
