Life In Chance Encounter

In discovering one another, we all recall

the indecision, the wonder, the what if

this person has totally different views on

how to live my life, in response to

how I see their life evolving.

And then there is the church gathering,

where everyone does smile, does wear finery,

does hope to be noticed for their altruistic attitude.

Walking down a busy street, we pass by known entities

people who have crossed our paths,

yet,

we will never know who they are and why.

Instead, we’ll notice their eyes,

in some quiet familiarity,

until the light changes,

and the darkness reappears.

I read about a friend today, speaking of another,

we probably know similar lifestyles,

outspoken attitudes,

private scenarios that describe a personality,

and then later he cried,

and his tears continued,

for no one else understood just how deep

was his compassion.

She left him without telling him why,

just how,

and we are decidedly the purveyors of

survival.

I crossed paths with someone today,

he knew me,

by sight, by locale, by industry,

yet we know each other,

not at all, though others,

know us both,

very well.

So today, I continued the facade,

that human interaction,

need to when eyes connect,

at least finish a complete sentence.

The next time we speak ill of our neighbor,

perhaps a second glance,

a chance encounter,

could mean a world of forgiveness,

beyond our second nature.

Piano Solos

Listen,

while the world rings true,

a glimmer, a hope, a dance

while this melody, a shape maker

presents an accidental shift

in memory.

Imagine the rise of delightful keys,

sweet muse

soft patterns of reality.

~

I listen to piano solos

for the breadth of tradition,

that notion spoken

in the hearts of many before me,

whose talented fingertips,

did create moments.

Awe, delight, tears, and genuine

sadness, perhaps simple delight,

triggered by a tempered key,

twists the mind around an obligation,

~

when just recently I wondered

only how, when I might release

my imagination,

I listened

the notes bold,

suggest my life is attainable,

as reaching the octave necessary

towards an understood element of survival;

an epiphany moves through my veins,

causing heart to blend –

the moisture outside,

while we wait,

will cleanse our sated soul.

Begin Now

When they said,

‘wait for tomorrow’ they might have followed

with a rhapsody of torment in eruptive skies.

For we do seek explosive reckoning,

when a sudden cathartic,

a ‘now’ moment as mother

always cried

in the midst of change,

what opportunity lies in the future

is exactly our temptation.

If only I might be that river,

that instead of being challenged with every crevice,

I might travel uninterrupted and able to carve

my own well drawn tale of luxury.

A positive note,

to accentuate a glorious sunrise,

always the same,

yet,

when understood to be all there really is,

the shimmer can be extraordinary …

Blind your eyes to the past

and shed layers to step free

State of Mind

Well it seems rather simple when we look it square in the eye,

you’re either thinking racist thoughts or your not,

it seems like it ought to be that simple in our world today,

yet, we now have to include state of mind.

~

We used to get away with recognizing hatred as evil,

a mile away you could see it in their eyes

today, we stand right next to one another and yet still

really haven’t a clue of that state of mind.

~

Inside a church where people stood and prayed and bled

they fell together in their efforts to be led

though hadn’t any idea of the person standing so nearby

on that particular day amidst their state of mind.

~

We go to work sometimes in a dull morning only wishing

to stay in bed sometimes for lovely reason,

yet we smile, we nod, we open doors altogether while

inside we may discretely hide a state of mind.

~

So who is it that can wonder how to corner the market

stand next to one another and smile genuine,

who knows the next time we are all leaning toward the sun

we won’t be yearning upon a certain state of mind.

~

I suppose it might be easy to offer a simple solution

It always is so much better in the right state of mind

Grey Days

Beautiful ways. Understand we believe

a happiness begins inside our heart.

Without that connection, how we perceive

the world around us seems less a start,

Quite a reality we’d more avoid.

Fear is a common ground speaks volumes loud

when in a single day we feel that void

that stir of anxiety, disallowed

by a societal definition.

Who might indicate the right actions take

when faced with life’s ironic decision.

Choose today’s grey afternoon by the lake

Haven’t a choice as to where might we go.

Beauty, truth exists howsoever we show
