The Hennepin Avenue Bridge

By

Remember the night, the lights over the river,

and we, brick by brick, raced up the bridge.

I was out of breath when I caught up to you

at the top, a knowing smile in your eyes.

That night is etched in my mind forever,

I imagine just having fun being in love.

There’s a romantic energy out there somewhere,

a quiet reminder of two lovers together.

In my silent rewind, I wonder if she does,

that time she touched my heart and soul.
