A Reasonable Code

We live our lives by a reasonable code,

that is,

if we choose to live by rules,

decisions made long before our lives

ever mattered.

Yet, now today, they seem to,

whenever a new day begins,

seems we have needs,

look each other in the eye,

to know that life exists …

outside ourselves.
