Triggers

I was wondering about triggers today,

while the sunset reminded me …

I spoke to a friend the other day,

who mentioned anniversaries.

We all seem to know some similar cycle

a reflection in the mirror,

we can recall a simple action in our lives,

and suddenly be filled with fear.

The canned word we hear today is

triggers,

moments we need to hang on for dear life.

We need to understand that makes us stronger,

it doesn’t suggest we crumble on command.

~

sparks, followed by indecision, conveyed through memory

we walk and talk and stand tall until the collapse,

until our human mind can no longer withstand scrutiny,

and we say to her, maybe him, someone later in the day,

I really have to stay away from those triggers.

But isn’t that life,

we recognize our way,

is built upon strife,

that outlives our today.

We will have more moments when in a flash

we can cry and cleanse and recall and … cry.

we will know in the morning just how distant again,

our lives have become from whence we first began.

Please I would love you to share words, suggestions …
