When Do We Stop to Breathe

The rain is steady today

I can see a long arc in the sky

we will receive a thrashing of wind

a searing breeze chills our skin

causing an inherent need to seek

shelter, to protect ourselves

from the weather.

When do we stop finding solace

seeking shelter

What is the compelling drive

that keeps our hearts

yearning for more, beyond what we are

or what we have,

how might we believe we can become.

I wish it were that easy

to use the rain and wind

the sky in Her natural form

as a metaphor for my life.

I mean, really windy out today

better to recognize

how moody my skies have become.

How delightful an afternoon

siesta might feel

given the natural blue horizon

that filtered through my morning walk

along the lake

in the whispering pines

while nature’s course began

a new waking day.

One can suppose there is a connection

a spiritual reckoning.

Often we recognize our lives

are drawn to the storms that surround

our state of mind.

We chase the clouds that could easily

in a gust destroy our livelihood.

Yet, somehow when the rains stop,

and the clouds dissipate

our lives are left in recovery

recognizing our resilient nature

to move forward

beyond the greying atmosphere

of decay and walls of discontent.

Like a weather pattern moving beyond range

our lives too will map a passion, a new dawn
