I am allowed to dig deep
Burrowing in my sheltered soul
A young boy amongst men
Still a child
With common fears
Still a trial
With every interaction
When will my heart feel that peace
Of letting go
I am amongst men
Cheerful and Resonating
Yarns of delightful emoting
When I glance
I can see hugs and smiles
And love and affection
And understanding
I am allowed to sit and listen
Borrowing a page from
A hollywood movie
The kind that has a crucial
Scene of reckoning
I am allowed to slip out of reality
My protective shelter
That place when I become lost
I am more easily found
Tonight I will let you know
While decades have eased by
I am allowed to be reminded
Of how our lives became one
Drawn together by words and verse
In the lines of simple graph paper
I am always hoping you will remember
