We have an opportunity when we go to see Last Vegas, and see some of
our finest icons grace the stage in roles that almost define their own lives. You see, with Hollywood, we don’t have the opportunity to see people for who they really are. We can only imagine because the characters they play on stage become so real within their extraordinary
talents to embrace the fictional characters they play. While watching DeNiro, Douglas,Freeman & Kline, I was delighted by their ability to be just funny enough as if they were playing themselves. Because after all, when we begin to age, playing ourselves becomes far easier to grasp than trying to be someone we are not.
Granted the Flatbush Four have lived lives far different than the four
reunited gentleman that gathered in Vegas for a rare reunion of personality, resentments, and simple humanity. Even the lovely presence of Mary Steenburgen allowed us all ~ an audience of increasingly silver hair ~ to appreciate how our lives have evolved into who we are today.
We can still be kids, and through the pain, certainly laugh about the
beauty of who we are. Even in Vegas.
